Forskningsinteresser
Analytiske og deskriptive epidemiologiske studier af helbredsforhold i Grønland. Igangværende projekter omfatter:

  • Folkesundhedsrapport for Grønland. Bogen er udgangspunkt for Hjemmestyrets arbejde med et grønlandsk folkesundhedsprogram og for en samfundsdebat om folkesundhed.
  • Sundhedsprofil for Grønland. Den første sundhedsprofil blev gennemført i 1993-94 ved interview af 1728 personer i hele landet. Analyser af denne tværsnitsundersøgelse har haft stor betydning for den sundhedspolitiske udvikling og debat. Sundhedsprofilen vil blive gentaget efter ca. 10 år med henblik på analyser af udviklingen i et folkesundhedsperspektiv. Desuden vil deltagerne i den første sundhedsprofil blive fulgt op i dødsårsagsregisteret og landspatientregisteret som en prospektiv socialmedicinsk analyse.
  • Den grønlandske børnekohorte. En undersøgelse, der i 2005 forventes at omfatte 500 mødre og deres nyfødte, der er undersøgt første gang under graviditeten og i barnets første leveår. Livsstil, levekår og sygdomme er registreret, og børnene vil blive efterundersøgt i en årrække med henblik på udvikling, forekomst af infektioner og risikofaktorer for hjertekarsygdom.
  • Inuit Health in Transition. I 1993-94 og 1997-2002 er der indsamlet to datamaterialer om risikofaktorer for hjertekarsygdom i Grønland og blandt grønlændere i Danmark med henholdsvis 264 og 1250 deltagere. Der planlægges nu et Grønlandsk-Canadisk forskningsprojekt om samme emne med en fælles undersøgelsesprotokol. Hovedformålet med projektet er at undersøge effekten af samfundsændringer, herunder især kost, fysisk aktivitet og sociale forhold, på forekomsten af hjertekarsygdom og diabetes blandt inuit. Det er planen at rekruttere 2500 deltagere fra Grønland.
