Foreword
In
1989, the Danish/Greenlandic Society for Circumpolar Health proposed a
number of initiatives in order to support health research in Greenland.
One of these was the preparation of a bibliography on health research in
Greenland. After several years of work it is finally here and I hope
that it will be useful for the research community.
A
printed bibliography is necessarily somewhat out of date already when
published. In the field of circumpolar health research, however, there
are so many books and reports and so much “grey” literature that it
is necessary to compile bibliographies in the traditional way; a search
in the various on-line databases only results in a fraction of the
published material. The present bibliography covers the period from 1970
to 1995 with some references from the 1960s. It thus supplements earlier
medical bibliographies on Greenland.
The
work was carried out in the Section for Research in Greenland, Danish
Institute for Clinical Epidemiology. Thanks are due to librarian Helen
Grundtvig Kristensen who compiled the basic material from numerous
printed and electronic bibliographies, and to professor Bent Harvald who
read the manuscript and drew our attention to several additional
references. Furthermore to stud. mag. Tekla
Canger,
secretary Tina Henriksen
and secretary Susanne Brenaa who prepared the manuscript and
translated the text. Financial support was received from the
tips/lottomidler of the Danish Ministry of Education and from The
Commission for Scientific Research in Greenland.
